I lingered at the edge of a cliff that dropped straight into the Nine-Bend River. A weathered plutonic rocks dome-shaped cliff was the only barricade that separated me from the tumbling super rapids below.
Mount Wuyi anchors at the pinnacle of biodiversity conservation in South-east China as a refuge for a large number of ancient and elicit species, many of them endemic to this region. This is also the origin of Lapsang Souchong black tea.
Legend claimed that the smoking process to make Lapsang Souchong black tea was discovered by accident during the Qing Dynasty. A military unit was passing through Xingcu and occupied a tea factory filled with fresh leaves awaiting for processing.
After the soldiers departed, the factory workers still had to finish the purchase order in time for the fresh market opening. Unfortunately, it was too late to make the tea using their standard methods. They lit up a fire of pine wood hoping to speed up the drying process. This unorthodox method worked and inadvertently developed a new style of tea that became legendary.
A sip of our Bespoke Lapsang Souchong Family Reserve black tea is a toast to patience and mastery and the ultimate expression of ultra premium Lapsang Souchong Black Tea. This artisan tea is a deconstruction of the top awarded tea of all time at the Global Tea Championship with a score of 96 points, won by Gregory Lui in 2018. It all starts with imperial grade Zheng Shan Xiao Zhong black tea. Good things take time. That’s why we toast our special black tea over low heat for two full hours. Then we introduce a proprietary blend of culinary grade wood smoke into the recipe. Where there is smoke, there is excitement. This nuanced technique allows the heat and smoke to deeply permeate the tea leaves resulting in a black tea of immaculate refinement, mesmerizing aromas and unrivaled craftsmanship.
Under the spell of a carnival of artisan smoke, soft notes of opulent vanilla and raisin pique the nose, giving way to a sweet ensemble of apple, and hickory notes. Bold, assertive, balanced, and full-bodied with an extra long warming finish. The Bespoke Lapsang Souchong black tea is a celebration of a childhood campfire with dad, savoring simple pleasures, magical memories and uncommon indulgences.
